Nolan Cross

The Director, Writer, and Creator

The nineteen year old writer of Zeep and all the Kingdom contains, Nolan Cross takes his inspiration from the widest variety of stories, most prominently ‘The Lord of the Rings’, ‘Twin Peaks’, and the filmmakers Lars von Trier, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Stanley Kubrick, and David Lynch. Video games, epic literature, and the real world are all in addition fundamental to the development of Zeep as a modern-medieval, genre-blending, operatic fable of duality. Nolan’s ultimate goal is to be a filmmaker, and bring his ideas to life in a movie trilogy, or limited series. He first grew up in Toronto, where he imagined fantastical stories with his oldest friend and grandmother figure, Vicki. After moving to Revelstoke B.C., Nolan worked closely with artist Benji Andringa to bring the World of Zeep to life in a graphic novel. After developing the first volume and screening the ‘animatic’ of it at the local cinema, our ambitious project has continued to evolve. Nolan continues catching ideas for an experimental film project called ‘MAWVERING’, and in his spare time enjoys walking his dogs, playing Skyrim, and practicing archery. Follow him on Instagram and Letterboxd!

Benji Andringa

The Designer and Illustrator

Benji aka Lowclass Art is a recognized graphic designer and illustrator, specializing in a wide variety of drawing styles and design techniques. The ZĒP Project is his first swing at a graphic novel. Working alongside writer/creator Nolan Cross, Benji has developed a new style of ink and grayscale (with striking, vibrant spot colour!) to breathe detailed life to the World of Zeep. His visual technology for the Volumes includes his high-tech iPad, equipped with an Apple Pencil, where he uses several graphic design apps to best illustrate ZĒP.

Benji’s inspirations include anything hand-drawn and old school such as vintage comic books, magazine ads, retro sci fi book covers, surf, skate, and pre 2000’s album art. With ZĒP, the art of Alan Lee, John Howe, Hieronymus Bosch and Zdzisław Beksiński has been a huge inspiration on how to portray the unstable new world Nolan has created – as well as dozens of films and video games from all genres that compliment our distinct imaginative atmosphere!
